The House Armed Services Committee today passed H.R. 1960, The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2014 by a vote of 59-2. The NDAA is expected to be considered by the full House next week.
Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-Santa Clarita), Chairman of the Committee, made the following statement upon passage of the bill:
“I am grateful to all of the Members of the Committee for their serious consideration and thoughtful debate today. I would also note that we finished our mark in the early hours of June 6th, 2013, the 69th anniversary of D-Day. I cannot think of a more appropriate conclusion to our work to protect national security and support our men and women in uniform.
“This is the first step in passing the 52nd consecutive National Defense Authorization Act. We think of this annual bill as the gold standard for Congressional bipartisanship and transparency. Despite important disagreements on key issues, our members have never failed to come to a consensus on behalf of our fighting men and women. I’m proud of the work we have done here today.”
