The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for the region stretching from the Antelope Valley foothills on the east to Santa Barbara County on the west.
A red flag warning means critical fire weather conditions are expected. Dry fuels, gusty winds and low humidity could conspire the way they did with the recent Powerhouse Fire in San Francisquito Canyon and Lake Hughes.
“If fire ignition occurs, there could be a rapid spread of wildfire that would lead to a threat to life and property,” according to NWS.
The surge of dry air that is moving into the region is likely to persist through early Thursday.
