College of the Canyons freshman track and field athlete Anthony Fowler finished his 400-meter prelim race with a time of 46.83 seconds, to come in 14th place at the U.S.A. Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Drake University.
Fowler finished in fifth place in the third and final heat of the 400-meter prelim, running against a handful of NCAA Division I athletes. Juan Paul Green of the University of Illinois won the prelim race with a time of 46.59.
Fowler is one of four COC track and field student-athletes to earn a spot at the prestigious U.S. Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championship. In 2011, Chris Low ran in the 800-meter run and in 2007 Justin Skinner competed in the decathlon. On Thursday, Fowler’s teammate, freshman Tim White won a national championship in the triple jump.
