Hart grad Pat Valaika, now a junior shortstop at UCLA, has been drafted in the ninth round by the Colorado Rockies in Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft.
Valaika, the PAC-12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2013, hit .260 with five home runs and 42 RBIs for the Bruins.
Older brothers Chris and Matt were both drafted by the Cincinnati Reds. Chris is now with the Miami Marlins and Matt is no longer in professional baseball.
Nick Valaika, going into his senior year at Hart, is the youngest of the four brothers. He has already committed to UCLA to play baseball.
Valaika and the Bruins start the best 2-out-of-3 Super Regional against Cal State-Fullerton Friday at 4 pm.
