Friday: All-SCV School Dance Party at Magic Mountain

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies are inviting all Santa Clarita Valley eighth- to 12th-graders to a dance party at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

The dance, which will take place from 7-11 p.m. on Friday, is exclusively for local students in those grades who live in the Santa Clarita Valley, said Deputy Tom Drake of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Every year, the school resource deputies and the juvenile detectives get together and welcome the kids to Magic Mountain for a dance,” said Drake, who’s a school resource officer for Saugus High.

“It’s well chaperoned, and it’s a way for us to make positive contact with Santa Clarita Valley students,” he said.

Students who live in the Santa Clarita Valley but attend schools outside of the valley are also welcome, he said.

The event is $10 and there will be food, beverages and even a couple of rides will be open,” Drake said, mentioning Batman the Ride and The Green Lantern rides.

The dance will be held near the employee entrance at the back lot, which is near where those rides are in the park.

The annual event is its 20th year, Drake said, and draws hundreds of students from throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.

“It’s a big tradition here in this valley, were excited to be a big community partner with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department in putting (the dance) on,” said Sue Carpenter, spokeswoman for Six Flags Magic Mountain.

For more information about the event, parents or students should call the Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121 and ask for Sgt. Currie.
