New Year's Gunfire: 93 Incidents in Sheriff Jurisdiction

Ninety-three incidents of possible discharging of firearms were reported in LASD patrol area between Dec. 31 at 8 p.m. and Jan. 1 at 4 a.m. A 74-year old Gardena woman reported her foot was injured and a Compton woman reported her car was hit by gunfire. No other injuries or property damage was reported to deputies pertaining to the extremely dangerous practice of discharging firearms into the air to celebrate the arrival of the New Year.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department polices 130 unincorporated communities and 42 (of the 88) cities in Los Angeles County.
