Roundup: Buena Tops Valencia in Girls Soccer Tournament Final

valenciavikingslogoThe Valencia girls soccer team reached the championship game of the Buena tournament.


But Valencia lost to host Buena, 2-1, in the final of the tournament.


Daphne Coffey scored the lone goal for the Valencia girls against Buena. Rachelle Serrano had the assist.


It was the first loss of the season for Valencia. The Vikings are 5-1-1.


Buena won its own tournament for the first time since 2009.


The Valencia girls beat Oaks Christian, 2-1, in the semifinals. Serrano scored on a free kick. Kristen Fowble also scored for Valencia.


In high school basketball, the Canyon boys beat Trinity Classical Academy, 81-44, and improved to 9-1.


Dean Hendrix-Davis scored 17 points.


The Canyon boys open play against Santa Clara in the Ventura High tournament today.


The Golden Valley boys lost to Village Christian, 81-49.


In high school football, Les Robinson is the new coach at Trinity Classical Academy, according to a report in The Signal.


Robinson takes over a program that won the CIF Southern Section Division 2 8-man football championship under Mike Buchanan.


Buchanan was 30-6 in three seasons as the Trinity head football coach.


Robinson was an assistant football coach at Saugus High and Santa Clarita Christian.


In the NBA, the Clippers beat Minnesota Timberwolves, 120-116 in overtime. Blake Griffin scored 32 points and had 10 rebounds.


The Clippers have won five games in a row and seven of their past eight. They play the Golden State Warriors on Christmas night.


In the NHL, the Kings are home for a game against the Dallas Stars tonight.


The Kings are coming off a 3-2 shootout win over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night.
