The Saugus Union School District has released a community survey to invite feedback from the community about school needs and educational priorities. The District is considering placing a potential bond measure on an upcoming ballot to make essential repairs and upgrades for a safe and modern learning environment and to continue preparing students to compete in the 21st century.
District Superintendent Joan Lucid said: “We are proud of the high quality education we provide for elementary students here in Saugus. We strive for excellence when it comes to supporting student achievement, protecting student safety and school security, and preparing students to succeed in the 21st century. As we explore ways to achieve these goals, we value input from our community.”
The Saugus Union School District is one of the highest performing school districts in the state, with student test scores on statewide exams exceeding the California and Los Angeles County averages. Saugus schools have received multiple awards for their outstanding academic programs, including the Federal Blue Ribbon and the California Distinguished School Award. Readers of the Santa Clarita Valley Signal recently voted the Saugus Union School District the Number One School District in Santa Clarita.
The community survey, released both online and in a mailing to parents, fosters a collaborative dialogue by asking participants to rank their priorities for local elementary schools. Potential projects include:
• Updating schools to protect quality academic instruction in reading, writing, math and science;
• Adding science labs and equipment to enhance science education;
• Fixing or replacing leaky roofs, worn-out floors, hazardous materials and old rusty plumbing, where needed;
• Improving student safety and security;
• Providing students with more access to 21st-century learning technology;
• Updating outdated and inefficient electrical, heating and air conditioning systems to cut utility costs and save money.
