SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — The Master’s College Athletic Department and sixth-year women’s basketball head coach Dan Waldeck have released the Lady Mustangs’ 2013-14 schedule.

“I think our preseason schedule prepares us for conference play, and our conference schedule definitely prepares us for postseason play,” assessed Waldeck.  “We’ve tried to schedule in such a way that will give us back-to-back games against quality opponents and simulate a national tournament experience.   At least eight of our games on our non-conference schedule are against tournament-caliber teams on both the NAIA and NCAA levels.  Ultimately, our goal is to stay healthy and compete each night in a way that honors God.”

The Lady Mustangs’ campaign will begin with a tour of the Pacific Northwest where they will engage in exhibition games against a pair of NCAA Division1 teams: Washington State and Eastern Washington.

From there, the squad will look to advance its 2013 postseason No. 12 national ranking by battling through 29 regular-season contests.  Of the aforementioned games, 26 meetings will be against NAIA teams, including five opponents featured in the2012-13 NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Postseason Top 25 Poll: No. 1 Westmont, No. 3 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) No. 7 Westminster (Utah), No. 8 Vanguard, and No. 21 Carroll College (Mont.).

Also highlighting the Lady Mustangs’ schedule is a December 16 contest against Wayland Baptist (TX), one of the elite women’s basketball programs in the NAIA.  Eleven days later, the squad will host its annual holiday classic, featuring meetings against Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) and Westminster.

Slated to compete in 31 games, the Lady Mustangs will play 17 of those in the newly-renovated MacArthur Center.  November 14 will mark the Lady Mustangs’ home opener against Bethesda University of California.

In the 2012-13 season, the Lady Mustangs posted 25 wins (25-6), the fourth-most in program history, finishing a strong third in the Golden State Athletic Conference, and returning to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in five years.

Looking to continue the club’s success, coach Waldeck has signed four key additions who are expected to work well with the nine returning players.
