Roundup: Golfer Lee & U.S. Team Beat Europe to Take Cup

Valencia High graduate Alison Lee and her United States teammates won the PING Junior Solheim Cup golf tournament over Europe.


The United States won the three-day tournament, 14.5-9.5, at The Inverness Hotel and Golf Club in Colorado.


Lee won her final singles match of the tournament, 3 and 1, over Sweden’s Jessica Vasilic.


The United States and Europe were tied, 6-6, after Tuesday’s matches. The US team outscored Europe, 8.5-3.5, on the final day of the tournament.


Lee, who will attend UCLA in the fall, is the No. 1 player in the Polo American Junior Golf Association rankings.


In cross country, Race No. 6 in the College of the Canyons series is tonight.


Jeffrey Jackson won the fifth race in the cross country series last week at College of the Canyons. He completed the course in 15 minutes, 29.6 seconds.


Rodrigo Ornelas was second in 15 minutes, 31.6 seconds. He was followed by Sam Peckham in third in 15 minutes, 49.5 seconds.


Shalyn Mabrito was the top-finishing woman in the race in 20 minutes, 5.6 seconds.


In baseball, the Dodgers beat the visiting New York Mets, 5-4 in extra innings, and won their eighth game in a row.


Andre Ethier hit a pinch-hit two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the score, 4-4. Adrian Gonzalez knocked in Yasiel Puig with the winning run in the 12th.


The Dodgers have the day off today. They start a weekend series against the Phillies in Philadelphia on Friday.
