Aug. 5-13: City Resurfacing Newhall's Arcadia Street

citylogo_sealAs a part of the annual Overlay and Slurry Seal Project, the city of Santa Clarita will kick off roadway improvements on Arcadia Street, north of Lyons Avenue, beginning Monday, Aug. 5, and continuing through Tuesday, Aug. 13.  Residents and drivers in the area should anticipate traffic delays between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Drivers are encouraged to commute slowly and cautiously as there will be street closures and workers in the area until road improvements are complete. Street parking will not be allowed during scheduled maintenance work and temporary no parking signs will be posted in the work area.

“Keeping local streets well-maintained and free of potholes is an effort we strive to uphold every year.  With planned pavement maintenance programs, the city is able to extend the life of roadways through preventative maintenance treatments and repairs, which help uphold the overall aesthetics of Santa Clarita as a whole,” commented Mayor Bob Kellar.

Additional resurfacing enhancements will continue in various neighborhoods throughout the community through fall 2013. The capital budget includes $4 million for the Annual Asphalt Overlay and Slurry Seal Program, reflecting the City’s commitment to local roadway infrastructure.

Every year, Santa Clarita streets are evaluated and identified for their need for asphalt maintenance treatments. Streets selected for maintenance are included in the overlay and slurry seal projects. Flyers are distributed in the affected project areas ten days prior to construction to alert residents in advance.

The project work along Arcadia Street is scheduled to be complete before the school year begins and should not affect Hart High School traffic.
