County supervisors are set to accept a $100,000 donation from The Newhall Land and Farming Co. on Tuesday for a bike path sweeper that the county will use in the Santa Clarita Valley.
According to a report from county Public Works Director Gail Farber, Newhall Land was required to build Class-1 bike paths as a condition of approval for its West Creek subdivision, and deed the paths over to the county.
Newhall Land built the bike paths, but the county doesn’t have a good way to keep them clean.
To get the bike paths off of Newhall Land’s books and onto the county’s, Newhall Land agreed to donate $100,290.34 so the county could go out and buy a mini air street sweeper.
Regular street sweepers are too big for bike paths, and the county doesn’t have a miniature version that’s available for use in the Santa Clarita area.
Tuesday’s board action would instruct Public Works to buy one with the donated funds.
