Open Call for City's Quarterly Photo Contest

citylogo_sealCommunity members are invited to submit their favorite local snapshots for the City of Santa Clarita’s quarterly photography contest.  The spring contest is currently underway and new submissions must be received by March 31, 2013 to qualify for a variety of cash prizes.

Photo submissions must represent events, activities, nature or daily life in and around the Santa Clarita Valley. The photo contest is broken into six submission categories including: environment, architecture, people portraits, community life, altered images with artistic value, and photographs illustrating community issues.  Regardless of skill level, all community members are encouraged to submit photos.

“Community photographers are encouraged to submit pictures that showcase fun activities residents enjoy in Santa Clarita,” says Mayor Bob Kellar. “The City is always looking for photos that depict the high quality of life in Santa Clarita through the eyes of our own residents, and this contest is a wonderful opportunity to get the community involved.”

Winning photographs will be posted online at Santa-Clarita.com and used in City publications such as Seasons Magazine. Winning photographers will receive photo credit as well as cash prizes; $300 for first place photographers; $150 for second place; and $50 for third place.  City staff will judge photographs based on best representation within each category.

To participate, applicants are required to register with the Santa Clarita photo contest group at: Flickr.com/groups/santa-clarita-photo-contest.  All photos must be submitted to the Santa Clarita Photo Contest Flickr group.

The photo contest is ongoing with submissions due every quarter. The next photo competition begins right away with final submissions due June 30, 2013.
