The City of Santa Clarita is offering community members an opportunity to be part of Old Town Newhall’s heritage as a sponsor for the new iconic, public art project, which will be featured inside the Newhall Roundabout at the intersection of Main Street.
The area will be adorned with sizeable boulders with storyboards as well as plaques bearing the names of agencies, businesses and individuals who make the public art possible through donations.
“Old Town Newhall continues to be revitalized with various projects and events designed to reinvigorate the business community,” said Mayor Bob Kellar. “Encompassing all the charm and modern sophistication of premier cultural arts hub, Old Town Newhall offers exclusive and unsurpassed cultural and dramatic expressions, and I am inviting you to be a partner and help us make this specific public art project possible.”
One of the priorities identified for revitalization in the Downtown Newhall Specific Plan, which was adopted by City Council in 2005, was to change the character of the area by reconfiguring traffic flow to make the area more pedestrian friendly. The Newhall Roundabout is proposed to be constructed at the intersection of Main Street, Newhall Avenue and 5th Street and will contain an iconic art piece at the center.
For the last 10 years the City of Santa Clarita has actively taken on projects to revitalize and reinvigorate Old Town Newhall. Recent accomplishments include road realignments, circulation improvements, streetscape enhancements along Main Street, and a diverse mix of Thursdays @ Newhall events that attract thousands of visitors annually. Additionally, Old Town Newhall has seen new retail businesses relocate to the growing arts and entertainment district, including: Luscious Soul, One Savvy Girl, Ma Maison, and J. Serrano.
