Roundup: Valencia Boys Soccer Still Undefeated

soccer012313The Valencia boys soccer team took over first place in the Foothill League with a 1-0 shutout over West Ranch.

Zach Klindworth, pictured at right, scored the lone goal in the game in the 55th minute. The Vikings improved to 4-0-1 in Foothill League play.

West Ranch dropped to 4-1-0 and had its five-game winning streak snapped.

The Hart boys beat Canyon, 3-1. Harrison Sidell scored two goals for Hart.

The Canyon girls shut out Hart, 1-0. Mari Kneisel scored in the 75th minute for Canyon. Hart saw its 12-game unbeaten streak end.

The Saugus and Golden Valley girls played to a scoreless draw.

The Valencia girls shut out West Ranch 5-0. Bailey Reed scored two goals and the Vikings moved into first place in the Foothill League.

In high school basketball, the West Ranch boys beat Valencia, 70-63, behind a 32-point night from Kevin Harris.

He made five 3-pointers and also had five steals as West Ranch improved to 5-0 in the Foothill League.

Teammate Ako Kaluna scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds.

The Saugus boys beat Golden Valley, 62-53.

On the girls side, Valencia edged West Ranch, 43-41. Preea Johnson won the game for Valencia with a pair of free throws in the final seconds.

The Vikings are undefeated in the Foothill League at 5-0.

The Canyon girls beat Hart, 71-29. Alia McCoy scored 24 points and led five Canyon girls in double figures.

In college basketball, The Master’s College women lost its first game of the season, 68-57, to Westmont in a match-up of two teams in the top 10 in the NAIA.

The Lady Mustangs trailed by two points at halftime, 31-29, and were outscored 37-28 in the second half.

Lena Rivera led the Lady Mustangs, ranked No. 8 in the NAIA, with 12 points. The ninth-ranked Westmont women improved to 5-0 in the Golden State Athletic Conference.

The Master’s College women entered the game with an undefeated 17-game winning streak.

The Master’s College men’s basketball team lost to Westmont, 75-71. Derrick Fain scored 31 points and made four 3-pointers in the loss.

In the NBA, the Clippers lost to the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder, 109-97. Clippers guard Chris Paul did not play in the game. He is still nursing a bruised knee cap.

In the NHL, the Kings lost to the Colorado Avalance, 3-1. The Avalanche scored three goals in the third period. The Kings dropped to 0-2.

The Kings move on to Edmonton for a game against the Oilers on Thursday.
