Greetings and Happy New Year!
As we begin our new calendar year, it is my pleasure to share with you some of the programs and projects your city is working on.
We will be celebrating the grand opening of our new Canyon Country Community Center on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 10 a.m. at Sierra Highway and Flying Tiger. The community is invited to attend the grand opening and tour the new facility, which will be open six days a week. If you have ideas for programs at the new center, please let us know at www.santa-clarita.com/ccccideas.
Sports tourism is an important component of our local economy, and in 2013 we have a host of special events aimed at bringing to town excellent events, helping our local economy, and garnering national and international exposure.
In 2013, Santa Clarita will be host to both a start and a finish stage of the Amgen Tour of California, slated for May 14 and 15. This marks the fifth year that Santa Clarita has been selected as a host city for this prestigious event.
This year, we are helping to improve our community through our $46.6 million capital improvement program. Included in this massive work program are five major road and bridge projects (some of them multi-year projects); a new roundabout traffic calming project with an art component for Old Town Newhall; a new park-and-ride facility at the McBean Transfer Station, and several beautification projects city-wide.
This spring, the city will once again host the annual Earth Arbor Day, the 20th annual Cowboy Festival at Melody Ranch, free summer concerts in the park, and the annual marathon, to name a few fun things to look forward to. If you are interested in any of these programs or events or would like to volunteer, log on to our city’s website for details at santa-clarita.com, or call us at 661.259.2489.
Here’s to a great new year!
