Give Up Your Gun, Get a Gift Card

giftsforgunsSheriff Lee Baca and Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas will hold a press conference at a Ralphs grocery store in Compton on Monday to discuss the county’s new “Gifts for Guns” program.

The program provides an opportunity for residents to surrender any firearm, safely and anonymously, to the Sheriff’s Department in exchange for a gift card for Target or Ralphs.

Surrendered assault weapons are good for one $200 gift card each. Handguns, rifles and shotguns can be exchanged for a $100 gift card, while non-operational firearms will net the redeemer $50 in groceries or department store items.
