On Dec. 20, Caltrans issued a “Commuter Alert Notice” stating that Alondra Boulevard will fully close in both directions between Freeway Drive and Marquardt Avenue beginning Monday, Jan. 7, and that the Alondra Boulevard Bridge will be demolished in late January. Also, a full closure for the northbound Santa Ana Freeway (Interstate 5) on-ramp at Alondra Boulevard was scheduled.
At this time, these closures will not take place on January 7 and the Alondra Boulevard Bridge will not be demolished later this month. However, the closures and bridge demolition will occur at a later date. Caltrans apologizes for any inconvenience this information may have caused.
The public is encouraged to sign-up to receive email notifications on local street, freeway and ramp closures at the I-5 South Corridor Improvement Projects Toll-Free Hotline (855) 454-6335 or by visiting www.I-5info.com
Currently, three consecutive construction projects are underway on I-5 at Alondra Boulevard, Carmenita Road and Rosecrans Avenue in the cities of Santa Fe Springs and Norwalk. The work is part of the $1.6 billion I-5 South Corridor Improvement Projects to add one carpool and one general purpose lane in each direction along a seven-mile corridor from the Los Angeles/Orange County line to I-605.
The I-5 HOV Widening and Alondra Boulevard Bridge Project, from North Fork Coyote Creek Bridge to Marquardt Avenue, will add one carpool and one general purpose lane in each direction and reconstruct overcrossings at Alondra Boulevard and North Fork Coyote Creek, construct retaining walls and new ramps, improve the Alondra Boulevard roadway, and realign and upgrade adjacent frontage roads. The contractor for the $110 million Alondra Project is C.C. Myers, Inc. of Anaheim.
