Caltrans marked the opening of the elevated carpool lane connector between Interstate 5 and the Antelope Valley Freeway with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Sylmar Friday morning.
“This new connector ramp is an important part of Caltrans’ effort to provide motorists with a seamless carpool lane network in Los Angeles and Ventura counties and allows them more time to do things they enjoy rather than being stuck in traffic,” said Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty.
The $175.8 million project is designed to relieve congestion, improve traffic flow, enhance safety and improve traffic operations on both freeways.
Work began in July 2008 and the lanes were opened to travelers on December 23, 2012.
MCM Construction and Security Paving completed the work in a joint venture.
