Roundup: Hart Routs Burbank 81-50 as Tournament Opens

hart122712The Hart boys basketball team opened the Holiday Classic tournament with an 81-50 rout over Burbank in the first round of pool play.

Lewis Stallworth led the Indians with 15 points. Four players from Hart scored in double figures. Myles Franklin had 13.

The Indians led 37-32 at halftime and outscored Burbank, 25-8, in the third quarter to take a 22-point lead.

Hart improved to 12-0 to start the season. The Indians play Reseda in the second round of pool play tonight.

Reseda lost to South Bakersfield, 64-58, in the first round of pool play.

In other first round pool play games in the Hart Holiday Classic, Glendale beat Heritage Christian, 75-57. Grant beat Channel Islands, 70-54.

The second day of pool play begins today with South Bakersfield against Burbank. Glendale plays Channel Islands and Grant takes on Heritage Christian.

In the first round of the Chaminade Tournament, the Valencia boys beat Eagle Rock, 60-39.

The Golden Valley boys lost to Simi Valley, 61-57.

In the Ventura Tournament, the Canyon boys lost to Pacifica, 45-42. Marc Cabrera scored 17 points to lead Canyon.

In the Oaks Christian Tournament, the West Ranch boys lost to Rancho Verde, 56-35.

In the West Coast Holiday tournament, the West Ranch girls beat Marshall of Los Angeles, 33-25, in the gold division. Kimi Yamamoto scored seven points for West Ranch.

The Canyon girls beat Liberty of Bakersfield, 54-23. Alia McCoy scored 18 points and led three Canyon girls in double figures.

The Valencia girls lost to Bishop Amat, 50-47, in the invitational division. Sandra Ikeora led Valencia with 15 points.

The Saugus girls lost to Rolling Hills Prep, 47-40 in overtime. McKayla Cook, Alexa Ferante and Faye Osburn each scored 11 points for Saugus.

In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the Denver Nuggets, 126-114, and saw their five-game winning streak come to an end.

Kobe Bryant scored 40 points and went over the 30-point mark for the 10th game in a row. Dwight Howard was ejected midway through the third quarter and scored only 12 points.
