Fire Danger Rides In on Santa Ana Winds

nationalweatherservicelogo[National Weather Service] – High pressure building over the Great Basin will generate gusty northeasterly Santa Ana winds late Tuesday night through early Wednesday afternoon.

The winds will be focused over Los Angeles and Ventura counties where peak wind gusts to around 45 mph are expected over the mountains and Santa Clarita Valley, with gusts to around 35 mph expected over the Ventura County valleys and in the San Fernando Valley, especially on the north side. The gusty winds are expected to diminish by late Wednesday afternoon.

The warm and very dry conditions, along with gusty winds, will increase the fire danger today (Tuesday).

There may be local frost in the Antelope Valley and the interior valleys of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties late Tuesday night.

Wednesday through Monday

Areas of gusty northeast winds will affect the mountains and valleys of Los Angeles and Ventura counties and the Ventura County coastal plain Wednesday morning through early Wednesday afternoon.

These winds, along with warming and drying conditions, will bring elevated fire weather concern – but not for durations long enough to warrant a red flag warning.
