Weingart Foundation Contributes to Habitat for Heroes Project

[HFH] – The Weingart Foundation has awarded a Capacity Building Grant to Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys to allow the affiliate to replicate and expand its Enriched Neighborhood Model, housing services, and ReStore programs.

Habitat for Humanity is very thankful for the partnership with The Weingart Foundation. This funding will allow Habitat SF/SCV continue to grow in these challenging times.

This grant will be a critical component to our ongoing campaign to construct two new Veteran “Habitat for Heroes” communities in Sylmar and Santa Clarita in collaboration with CalVet. These communities will consist of 4-bedroom 2-story homes and, in the case of Santa Clarita, several 3-bedroom, 1-level ADA compliant homes, as well. Construction has already started on the Sylmar project and Habitat SF/SCV has plans to break ground on the SCV project in April.

The Habitat Restore in Chatsworth plays a major role in funding these projects. The ReStore accepts donated building supplies and furniture and sells them for at least 40% market value. Proceeds from the ReStore allow provide a sustainable funding mechanism for Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV to build homes in the Valleys, while keeping good quality supplies and furniture out of the waste stream.
