The Saugus girls won the Milken Tournament, downing host Milken, 49-31, in the championship game. Rachel Eaton scored 14 points and had 13 rebounds. She was selected as the tournament MVP.
The Santa Clarita Christian girls basketball team lost to California City, 30-23, in a game played at The Master’s College.
Jenni Jones led Santa Clarita Christian with nine points.
The Santa Clarita Christian boys beat California City, 61-51, at The Master’s College behind a huge game from Phillip Webb. He scored 36 points and had 21 rebounds for the Cardinals.
In high school soccer, the Hart girls won their first game of the season, 3-0, over Arcadia. Ally Perez scored two second-half goals for Hart.
Goalkeeper Daisy Hydar made four saves for the shutout. Danielle Spickard scored in the first half to give Hart a 1-0 lead.
In baseball, the Angels landed one of the top free agents by signing Josh Hamilton to a five-year deal.
The former Texas Rangers outfielder reportedly agreed to a $125 million contract with the Angels.
He is a five-time All-Star and was the American League MVP in 2010. He hit a career-high 43 home runs with 128 RBIs in 148 games last season. He is a career .304 hitter with 161 homers in six seasons.
In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the New York Knicks, 116-107, in Madison Square Garden. Kobe Bryant scored 31 points and had 10 rebounds, but the Lakers lost their fourth game in a row.
The Lakers are 9-14 and travel to Washington, D.C., for a game against the Wizards Friday night.
