Capt. Carrie Stuart of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department still remains in critical but stable condition with signs of improvement, Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said.
“Stuart’s status remains unchanged, but in the past 24 hours she has shown incremental improvement,” Whitmore said.
On Dec. 7, Stuart was involved in a serious head-on traffic collision with another vehicle in an unincorporated area in the Santa Clarita Valley. Stuart was transported and has been receiving treatment at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital since.
Stuart is a 28-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and serves as the unit commander of the Pitchess Detention Center, South Facility in the Santa Clarita Valley. She is 47 years old and lives with her four children – two in their 20s and two still in grade school.
Any donations or ways to help out the Stuart family or show support – cards, gift certificates, flowers, etc. – can be made to or dropped off at local Sheriff Stations in Santa Clarita and the Lancaster/Plamdale area, Whitmore said.
“[Stuart] is stable … but she’s got a long road ahead of her,” said Sgt. Gerri McCorkle.
