A small number of voters across the Santa Clarita Valley went to the polls Tuesday to fill seats on three elementary school boards and a water district.

Up for grabs were three seats each on the Saugus, Newhall and Sulphur Springs school boards, as well as the Newhall County Water District.

No seat was vacant; in all cases, the incumbents were seeking reelection and had one challenger.

Elections for the Hart School District, COC and Castaic Union School District were called off because there were no challengers; the incumbents were automatically reelected.

fv2The most vigorous campaigning was seen in the Saugus Union School District, where an incumbent lost two years ago to controversial challenger Stephen S. Winkler (whose seat was not up for election Tuesday). The incumbent blamed herself for a lack of aggressive campaigning; this time around, the incumbents got the message and hit the campaign trail – hard.

Check back for election returns as they come in from the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder.
