Black History Month:

Assemblyman Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, announced the passage of Assembly Concurrent Resolution 9 (ACR 9) which recognizes the month of February 2013 as Black History Month. Wilk co-authored the resolution.

“Our nation’s history is full of inspiring stories of great African Americans. We celebrate these stories with the passage of this resolution. In addition, we honor the many African Americans who are making a difference in our communities every day,” Wilk said.

Lincoln’s Birthday:

Assemblyman Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, issued the following statement today in honor of President Abraham Lincoln’s 204th birthday.

“President Lincoln was a remarkable man who steered our nation through one of the most challenging times in our history. He understood that liberty and equality are the core values of our nation. We celebrate his greatness by honoring him on this day,” Wilk said.

“Lincoln once said, ‘you cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.’ California faces some serious fiscal challenges and we must heed his words by confronting these challenges without delay,” Wilk continued.

The 38th Assembly District encompasses Simi Valley, the northern section of the San Fernando Valley and most of the Santa Clarita Valley.
