Pursuit of Rainbow Glen Burglar Leads to CC Rooftop

LASD_BadgeAfter a foot pursuit that lasted about a minute, two Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies caught burglary suspect Nathan Belton, a construction worker from Lancaster.

Belton was seen exiting a hole through a shatter glass door in the 26900 block of Rainbow Glen Drive shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Belton was seen carrying equipment out of the office when he was spotted by deputies. Belton saw the deputies and then took off running.

“I believe he threw (the equipment) down before we could actually detain him,” said Sgt. Rich Nagler of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The deputies began to chase the suspect while establishing a perimeter for their search, which ended at the driveway of a home in the 20200 block of Delight Street.

The suspect refused to stop when ordered to do so by deputies who pepper-sprayed the suspect before he climbed on to a nearby rooftop.

After surrounding the home he was on top of, the suspect eventually complied with an order to come down.

“He was detained and arrested,” Nagler said.

Belton was booked Wednesday at 6 p.m. on burglary charges.
