Hart District Honoring School Counselors This Week

wsh_logo_best_hartdistrictNational School Counseling Week – “School Counseling: Liberty and Learning for All” – sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, is celebrated Feb. 4–8 to focus public attention on the unique contribution of professional school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

At the William S. Hart Union High School District Board Meeting on Jan. 23, Joseph Messina, President of the Governing Board signed a resolution honoring the 58 Hart District school counselors, who “are considered an integral part of the educational process that enables all students to achieve success in school.” Messina credited school counselors for being actively committed to helping students explore their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents as these traits relate to career awareness and development; for working to help parents focus on ways to further the educational, personal, and social growth of their children; and for working with teachers and other educators to help students explore their potential and set realistic goals for themselves.

Professional school counselors are certified, experienced educators with a master’s degree in guidance and counseling. The combination of their training and experience also helps them identify and utilize community resources that can enhance and complement Hart District comprehensive school counseling programs in order to help students reach their full potential and become productive members of society.

“School counselors work with all students to remove barriers to learning by addressing students’ academic concerns, personal/social skills and career awareness in post-secondary options,” said Kwok-Sze Wong, Ed.D., ASCA executive director. “Comprehensive school counseling programs help to increase student achievement and provide a much-needed resource for students, parents, teachers and administrators. School counselors are integral to student success.”
