Valencia Water Co. announced Monday it will offer free high-efficiency sprinkler nozzles to homes, businesses, schools and nonprofits in its service area.
Using pop-up sprinkler spray heads with new water-efficient nozzles can save more than 6,600 gallons of water per nozzle over a 5-year period. Water-efficient sprinkler nozzles apply water more evenly than conventional spray nozzles, thus saving water and reducing the amount of run-off.
“Valencia Water Company is committed to providing its customers with all the best available tools, advice and technology to be water efficient through simple steps. The free sprinkler nozzle program is very exciting because it’s an extremely easy way to save water and money,” said Matt Dickens, Valencia Water Company’s resource conservation manager.
Customers who wish to receive their free nozzles will need to follow a few easy steps, starting by visiting the “free sprinkler nozzle” area on the Valencia Water Company website, www.valenciawater.com. Customers will be directed to the FreeSpinklerNozzles.com website where they will watch a short video online, then click on a map to ultimately receive a voucher to take to a participating retailer for the free nozzles.
Residential customers can receive up to 25 high efficiency Toro Precision™ series spray nozzles. Businesses, schools, homeowner associations, and non-profit organizations can receive up to 250 free nozzles.
“These nozzles typically cost $4 each, so a single household can get up to $100 worth of free sprinkler nozzles under the program,” Dickens said.
Valencia Water Company customers won’t notice any changes to their landscapes by using the more efficient nozzles and likely won’t need to adjust their sprinkling schedules. High-efficiency nozzles simply reduce water waste by applying water at a slower, more uniform rate. Most “spray” nozzles apply water too fast for the soil to absorb and their “misting” characteristic means some water doesn’t make it to the landscape.
“One thing customers will notice by using high-efficiency nozzles is a significant reduction in water being wasted,” Dickens said. “The older spray nozzles simply create the all too familiar scene of water running off the sidewalk and into the gutter.”
The free sprinkler nozzle program is the latest offered under Valencia Water Company’s “HELIUM” (High Efficiency Landscape Irrigation Upgrade Measures) program. To achieve the greatest irrigation efficiency for landscapes, Valencia Water Company also offers customers a program with up to a 50% rebate to install high efficiency nozzles combined with high efficiency sprinkler bodies, or by installing master pressure-regulating devices.
There are differences between these two options. Customers are encouraged to find details on the Valencia Water website – www.valenciawater.com – or by calling a water conservation expert at: 661-294-0828.
