Barely out of California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, Skyler Page made the big time this week when Cartoon Network ordered a new series featuring Page’s original character, Clarence.

CN didn’t even wait for the results from the 2013 Annie Awards – animation’s top honors – where Page is a nominee for his work as a storyboard artist on Cartoon Network Studios’ “Adventure Time: Goliad.”

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Cartoon Network green-lit twelve 15-minute episodes from the 2011 CalArts Film School graduate. The series, “Clarence,” is about an optimistic boy who wants to do everything because everything is amazing.

Page had pitched a pilot for “Clarence” to the network earlier his year, according to other sources.

Page garnered attention when, as a second-year CalArtian, his animated short, “Crater Face” went viral. Uploaded to YouTube on May 2, 2012, it’s got nearly 1.1 million views today. His description of the 4:45-minute film: “Astronaut risks life and limb to bring two moon pimples together for love.”

After that, he was recruited by Cartoon Network, first as a storyboard revisionist and then as a storyboard artist.

Now he’ll be adding “creator” to his bio.
