As the temperatures drop, lights are put up and ornaments are hung there are still a few things missing around the holidays in Santa Clarita. Artist Nancy Degan is trying to change that this winter with her murals.
Degan has gone around to local businesses to paint winter murals on the front windows and doors. This is her first year painting the murals – previously sculpting bronze military memorial statues for Armed Service members.
“I have been an artist since 1985 doing many other projects,” Degan said. “I really wanted to use my talents and I figured holiday window art would be best during this time.”
The Newhall artist has already provided quaint winter landscapes (think snowmen and sleds and snowball fights with children) to four local businesses with many more on the horizon.
Degan recently finished her mural at Mac’s Pool and Spa Supply on San Fernando Road. The mural was her largest yet – taking over two days to complete over four doors and windows.
The mural features a tongue-in-cheek scene of two snowmen looking none-too-happy about cleaning a pool during the winter time.
“I wanted people passing by or customers of these stores to react to what they see – make it fun around the holidays,” Degan said.
