The housing community along the future Marsha McLean Parkway east of Highway 14 will be gated, if the City Council agrees to take certain procedural steps Tuesday.
The council approved the Golden Valley Ranch development years ago, but only the shopping center was built, and hundreds of acres of raw land in Placerita Canyon were deeded to the city as open space.
The project was supposed to include about 400 single-family homes behind (east of) the shopping center.
Now the home builder, Pardee Homes, is pushing through the paperwork necessary to build them, and it wants to lock them behind a gate.
The Planning Commission said OK in October 2011, and on Tuesday the City Council decide whether to give up the public rights-of-way.
The homes would be bordered by the shopping center to the west, Fair Oaks Ranch to the north, Sand Canyon to the east and Placerita Canyon to the south.
The proposal is a consent item on the council’s agenda.
