Nominees for the 70th annual Golden Globe Awards were announced Thursday, and four of the five blockbusters in the Best Animated Feature Film category were directed by alumni of California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, according to CalArts Web Communications Director Christine N. Ziemba.
In alphabetical order, the films are:
* “Brave,” directed by Mark Andrews (Film/Video BFA 93) and Brenda Chapman (Film/Video BFA 87), with co-director Steve Purcell;
* “Frankenweenie,” directed by Tim Burton (Film/Video 79);
* “Hotel Transylvania,” directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (Film/Video 92);
* “Wreck-It Ralph,” directed by Rich Moore (Film/Video BFA 87).
The only animated feature film not directed by a CalArtian is “Rise of the Guardians” by Peter Ramsey, who is an alumnus of UCLA, Ziemba said in the CalArts blog, 24700.
The 70th annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony airs on NBC Sunday, Jan. 13, beginning at 5 p.m.
