The Santa Clarita Amateur Radio Club and the Santa Clarita Emergency Communications Team will be host their annual Field Day emergency communications exercise at the Castaic Lake Water Agency on Saturday, June 22, and Sunday, June 23.
Participants will be demonstrating how they assist public safety professionals during disasters when their primary methods of communications fail. There will also be a Get On The Air (GOTA) station available for the public to use so they can learn the many different aspects to amateur radio and see its not just how Hollywood portrays it in movies with Morse code.
Radio operators have their own satellites, e-mail network, a vehicle location system similar to LOJACK called APRS, and even their own ATV television stations.
