Happy Valley Parolee Found with Crossbow, Heroin, Meth

lasd101013b[LASD] – On Thursday, Oct. 10, deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Crime Prevention Unit (CPU), along with probation officers from the Los Angeles County Probation Department, and deputies assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Crime Impact Team (CIT) conducted a multiple location parole / probation compliance operation during the early morning hours.

This operation is part of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station’s ongoing proactive efforts to ensure that convicted criminals living in the Santa Clarita Valley are in compliance with the terms and conditions of their probation after release from jail. Today’s operation focused on convicted criminals that have been released from jail early under the State of California’s (AB-109) Post Release Community Supervision program.

During a check of a residence located in the 24500 block of Valley Street in Newhall, deputies contacted Mr. Michael Neighbors, a 46-year-old male currently on parole under the State of California’s early release (AB-109) Post Release Community Supervision Program. During a subsequent compliance check of the residence, numerous items of contraband were recovered including:

* Narcotics Paraphernalia including a digital scale and numerous glass methamphetamine pipes;

*Heroin (both in black tar and powdered forms), Methamphetamine, and Marijuana;

*Crossbow with metal tipped bolts (possession prohibited under terms of AB-109);

*A large amount of US Currency;

*Electronic devices containing evidence of narcotic sales.

Michael Neighbors was subsequently arrested by Santa Clarita Valley CPU deputies for possession of various types of controlled substances for the purpose of sales and for being in violation of the terms of his parole. He is currently being held in custody at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station without bail. Mr. Neighbors is expected to appear in North Valley Superior Court in San Fernando on Tuesday, October 15th 2013.

It is the goal of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to assist post release supervised persons in becoming viable members of society. To do this, new programs are being developed and implemented and resources allocated or realigned. Resource guides are available at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and quarterly life skills courses are being developed to provide offenders with the educational tools, employment resources, and training to reintegrate into society and reduce recidivism.
